Travis

I was two hours late for work on the farm. I shut off my alarm this morning when it started going off. I got to the farm to see Mr. Westen in the chicken coop gathering up the legs.

“Sorry, sir. Brad didn’t come to the bar until closing time, and I had to stay to clean.” I rush out as I try to get into the coop, but he stops me.

“Travis, nights that you work at the bar, let me know that, and you can come in late or take the day off.” Mr. Westen lets me know.

“Thank you, sir.” I sigh in relief.

“George!” I hear Rebecca yelling frantically. “George!” I run out to meet Rebecca who’s panting holding the phone. “It’s a Daniel about Lucille.” Mr. Westen is slowly walking with his cane back to meet up with us, so I take the phone.

“Hello, this is Travis. I’m a friend of the family’s and especially Lucy.”

“I prefer to talk to George, but I’ll talk to you. Lucy had an accident at the theater today. She’s fine but hurt. I need George to get here as soon as he can. I can stay until he gets here.”

“Okay, it’s about a four to five-hour drive, so we’ll be there as soon as possible.”

“Thank you.” Daniel sounds relieved.

“Daniel, how bad is it?” I ask as George comes to stand near me. I put the phone on on speaker.

“Daniel, It’s George, what’s going on?”

“George, like I was telling this young man. Lucy fell today doing a pirouette. They have ice on her ankle, had to cut off her slipper and they’re trying to get an x-ray done. The doctor is talking about surgery.”

“Okay, Travis here will give you his cell phone number. Text him the address, and we’re on our way as soon as I can pack an overnight bag.”

“Sounds good George.” George takes off towards the house with Rebecca. “Travis are you still there?”

“Yes, sir.” Daniel takes my number and texts me the address. I bring the phone into the house and tell Mr. Westen that I’ll be back in thirty minutes. I also told him to take a couple of days worth of clothes and his pills. Rebecca was on the phone with Robbie about Lucy and him having to get her.

“Hey, Martin. Mr. Westen and I are leaving for the weekend in an emergency. Rebecca is leaving to go up north so please watch over the house. I’ll call to check in, and also I’ll have Missy come over to help you too.”

As I’m in my room, putting clothes into a bag, I gather up my laptop so I can do some of my school work since I’ll have some downtime. Missy has my parents at their appointments. I write a note for my mom and dad on the television where I know they’ll see it. I walk over to the barn to leave Missy a note on her bed. I decide to drive my Chevy Malibu instead of my truck so Mr.
